Autistic kids and Speech:

In our follow up, there were basically 2 groups of children who were given Auum Essential D3A by their parents. First, the non-verbal children who didn’t smile or even react much to their parents or their requests.

Upon being given the omega 3 product, initially, their parents commented that the children were happy & smiling, in some cases running to hug them when they arrived at school to pick them up (when previously they had never responded to their mom’s presence or calls). Then many reported that their children were singing – one child could sing all the words to Happy Birthday although he didn’t otherwise speak spontaneously. They then progressed to trying to say words and eventually speaking in sentences.

Secondly, were those children who could parrot single words, but did not use their words spontaneously nor in the proper context. Example, they could repeat the word mom or their siblings names, but never called out “MOM” spontaneously.

Some children, with their first dosage of Auum oil, used these and other words spontaneously and in the proper context.  Soon they were using 2 or 3 words together and over the months they progressed to using multiple sentences.

Auum omega 3 products are a complete natural source of all three bioactive omegas, EPA, DHA and DPA.

Auum omegas help to support the development of brain, eyes and nerves.

Background. Developmental coordination disorder (DCD) affects ∼5% of school-aged children. In addition to the core deficits in motor function, this condition is associated commonly with difficulties in learning, behavior, and psychosocial adjustment that persist into adulthood. Mounting evidence suggests that a relative lack of certain polyunsaturated fatty acids may contribute to related neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders such as dyslexia and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Given the current lack of effective, evidence-based treatment options for DCD, the use of fatty acid supplements merits investigation.

Methods. A randomized, controlled trial of dietary supplementation with ω-3 and ω-6 fatty acids, compared with placebo, was conducted with 117 children with DCD (5–12 years of age). Treatment for 3 months in parallel groups was followed by a 1-way crossover from placebo to active treatment for an additional 3 months.

Results. No effect of treatment on motor skills was apparent, but significant improvements for active treatment versus placebo were found in reading, spelling, and behaviour over 3 months of treatment in parallel groups. After the crossover, similar changes were seen in the placebo-active group, whereas children continuing with active treatment maintained or improved their progress.

Conclusions. Fatty acid supplementation may offer a safe efficacious treatment option for educational and behavioural problems among children with DCD. Additional work is needed to investigate whether our inability to detect any improvement in motor skills reflects the measures used and to assess the durability of treatment effects on behaviour and academic progress

Overview of the Study using Auum D3A – Somali children with Autism

Here  are the follow up results seen in a group of Somali children diagnosed with Autism aged 3-1/2 years to 16 years.

These children were given Auum Omega Essential D3A  twice daily.

The sleep common issues I heard were: doesn’t go to sleep easily, takes 2 hours or  more to fall asleep, needs someone to sit with them for up to 2 hours before falling asleep, awakes in the night, sometimes 3-4 times, sometimes crying, and finds it difficult to fall back to sleep, sometimes not doing so at all. Other children were taking meds or melatonin in order to sleep.

The results came quickly, some in 1 week, several in 3 weeks and the longest in 2 months: “Goes to sleep immediately, sleeps through the night, goes to bed by himself now, has a deep sleep.” All children were sleeping through the night without waking and without meds within a 2 month period maximum.

None of the children had spontaneous speech. At most they parroted the speech of others when prompted and only single words which were often indiscernible.  The most significant response to the intervention was spontaneous speech, appropriate use of words, clear words, starting often by clearly singing songs and use of more words in response to questions, which led to multiple sentences.

One child used very few words, and not in context, not appropriately and never spontaneously. The very first day that he took D3A, he called “Mommy where are you?” The rest of the family came running … such a big deal it was. Previously, he could say mommy, but never used the word in addressing his mom.  The second day he called an elderly neighbour who visited often, “Granny”.  In three months, he was calling his sister by name. At four months, he was singing all the time, but not clear words.  By five months, he was repeating conversations and spontaneously saying things like “I can’t believe this”. At six months on the D3A, he is never quiet, always either singing or saying things in full sentences. At school, one of his fellow students with autism was very upset and this child went over and held his hand so that he wouldn’t hit himself and asked “Are you okay?”

This 16 year old child used only single words and then just when he wanted something.  He started to speak spontaneously after one week of taking D3A and was more responsive to questions. It was the habit of his classmates to make him do all the chores and he just accepted it and did them.  At three weeks, he was standing up for himself at school and saying “no” to the bossy kids after practicing saying “no” to his teacher for a few days. At six weeks, he was freely answering questions with phrases, spelling his sister’s name and using longer words. At 15 weeks, when questioned he answers quickly and in sentences.

Some children were very hyperactive and uncontrollable. Others were angry and crying often.

Refuses to do things asked of him, ignores questions, always separate at school, always wanted to stay at home. In six weeks, he does what he is asked right away, chooses his own clothes and dresses himself, sits with the other kids at school and responds more in class. At 2 months, he insists on playing outside all the time and insists on going shopping with his mom and is trying to communicate with other children at school.

Five days after starting D3A this young child has gone from continually racing around the house and jumping on the bed, very hyper to being calm, no more running and jumping.  Totally calm, comes when called. In three weeks, he does what he is asked the first time, before you would have to ask ten times.

Very hyperactive, destructive, house has deadbolt so he doesn’t run away, mom has to hold his hand when outside, couldn’t sit still long enough to eat, his meal would be warmed multiple times for him. In five months, he has finally calmed down.  He plays in the playground without running away and has better compliance when asked to do things, he goes to the school bus by himself and he eats his meal in one sitting.

High pitched whining stopped within 2 months.

Hand flapping and noise was reduced by 12 weeks

Hand clapping was reduced at 12 weeks and by 15 weeks had ceased except rarely when upset.

One of the first things that the moms reported was that their child was calm, smiling and happy.

Crying spells and frustration in 3 weeks turned to laughing alot and no more crying.

Never smiled, didn’t acknowledge his mom when she came to pick him up from school or called to him. In three weeks, he runs right away to greet his mom when he sees her with a smile and gives her hugs.

Although most of the children did make some degree of eye contact, they did prefer to stay at home and be by themselves. Some never smiled and didn’t like physical contact.

Over the course of weeks, they increased their interactions with other children, pulling them by the hand to play together and sharing toys. Also they chose to sit close to other children at school and began trying to interact and communicate with them. Spontaneous hugging of family members occurred for the first time.

A 14 year old boy who communicates with sign language and prefers to be alone, after 6 weeks is playing sharing and with others.  He had little eye contact and would walk away when being spoken to. At 15 weeks he now stays, listens and pays attention when spoken to.  At 18 weeks he looks his mom in the eye when she is speaking to him.

A 10 year old boy never acknowledged his mom when she came to pick him up after school.  She would have to go and take him by the hand to go home.  After 2 weeks, he runs right away up to her and hugs her with a smile (he never smiled before). A 6 weeks, he has lots of eye contact and now also hugs his brother and sister.

Inability to focus was a common issue.

Improvement in focus and ability to follow instructions were reported and confirmed by the children quickly moving forward at school. One child who can write showed large improvements in neatness, good spelling and writing complete sentences in 18 weeks.

Several other children now focus to dress themselves and one child who would need his meal heated up about 5 times in order to finish dinner, now sits down and eats it in one sitting.

Some children were described as refusing to do things when asked, others as ignoring questions and directions. Other children only complied when asked to do something ten times.

Quickly this scenario changed to “Does what he is asked immediately after being asked only once”

It has been a pleasure working with these diligent moms and their polite children and seeing the personal progress of each child.

Discovering Omega 3 Magic — A Health Journey: From Trend to Wisdom

By Lily Lanczi

Who am I?

I have been going to health food stores since I was 18 years old. So I was conscious about and interested in exploring health early on in my life. I have spent the last 20 years in and around the alternative health care industry, first as a sales representative and more recently as a writer.

Initially I learned to recognize what was unhealthy – and over the course of my life, I have increasingly found food that was processed, denatured, and devoid of the nutrients the human body needs to thrive. Now I have a good understanding of what it takes to nourish and care for the human body.

Is Vegetarianism Optimal?

Three years ago, I began to question the wisdom of the vegetarian diet. I had stopped eating red meat 20 years before, convinced that it was bad for me. I was doing a juice fast when a new friend I had met at a market directed me to the book The Maker’s Diet by Jordan Rubin. She said: “Just read it. It will open your eyes.”

I was feeling depleted. I had been following a vegetarian, verging on vegan and raw diet for six months, also incorporating the diet and book Eat Right for your Blood Type by Dr. Peter J D’Adamo .The Maker’s Diet is an introduction to a Paleolithic diet. Rubin claims that this is the way God and the Bible intended for us to eat. In his book, Rubin challenges his readers to cut out grain and nuts for 40 days, focusing on meat, fish, eggs, raw dairy and vegetables.

As I read and began to doubt the wisdom of avoiding animal products and particularly animal fat, I experienced a common inner struggle. I had heard for so many years that red meat was unhealthy, hard to digest, full of growth hormones and antibiotics and therefore not an optimal food choice. Vegetarianism was becoming increasingly popular. Many of my friends, for both health and spiritual reasons had stopped eating meat. Vegetarianism was not only becoming my goal, it was becoming my bible. I love animals and want to be kind to them. Yet, for all my efforts and willpower, I was not feeling great. I found that I was often hungry and cold. And I had always loved eating meat. So, in the midst of this dilemma, I was open to hearing about a new approach.

Well, I accepted Rubin’s challenge. I also started drinking raw milk. I had been struggling with indigestion whenever I ate grains with gluten, especially wheat. And indigestion is no fun at all. After 40 days of following Rubin’s diet and cutting out all grain, I felt wonderful! My indigestion was gone and as I was digesting and assimilating my food better, I had much more energy.

Around the same time, I was introduced to the Weston A. Price Foundation. Weston A. Price was a dentist from Cleveland, Ohio, known primarily for his theories on the relationship between nutrition, dental health, and physical health. His book, Nutritional and Physical Degeneration, describes the fieldwork he did in the 1920s and 1930s among various world cultures. He found that non-Western groups showed increases in typical Western diseases as they abandoned indigenous diets and adopted Western patterns of living. He concluded that Western methods of commercially preparing and storing foods were stripping away vitamins and minerals necessary to keep the body healthy and to prevent disease.

Price perceived that the way for humans to properly nourish themselves is to eat mostly nutrient-dense foods, particularly animal foods, from animals raised on mineral-rich soil, including organ meats and milk products. For more information on the Weston A. Price Foundation, please visit: www.westonaprice.org

Although I am not a nutritionist, I have a wealth of knowledge, experience and intuition. I will likely never be someone who believes I have no more to learn. Nevertheless, I am not often blown away by something new anymore. Well, this past weekend I was blown away. As you have probably already guessed from my quest for optimal health, I am a truth seeker.

As our body receives less and less nutrients needed to build and repair our cells, we become sicker and sicker. And sadly we bring children into the toxic jungle we’re creating. What I do not understand is how most people can turn a blind eye to signs that are absolutely unmistakable. A growing number of the children I see in public places are overweight, have visible rashes or eczema, behave inappropriately and are miserable.

I was a student of Native American Medicine Wheel teachings for a number of years and took a vow to: “Never cross the children’s fire”. I have come to understand this to mean that I commit to never intending to harm a child – or the child in us all. Yet, when we do not give our children the nourishment they need, are we not crossing the children’s fire in the most elemental way?

What Causes Autism?

Out of this breakdown of our food system, we are birthing children who struggle from the moment they are born. Our environment is toxic, mothers often have no clue how to eat optimally during pregnancy, and babies are often not breast fed (breast milk is 30% Omega 3) and are vaccinated a number of times in their first year of life. I believe this combination of factors contributes to the onset of autism and autism spectrum disorders (ASDs).

I am not alone. Jaquelyn McCandless, MD in her book Children With Starving Brains – A Medical Treatment Guide For Autism Spectrum Disorder says:

“The environmental insults that trigger the damage can occur before birth while the fetus is still developing, during infancy, or while the child is a toddler. Whatever the timing, those environmental insults overburden undeveloped or just developing immune systems, often causing the children’s immune systems to turn against their own bodies.”

McCandless believes that is a causal relationship between environmental insults and many autoimmune diseases. She goes on to say that this is a manifold problem:

“There are many theories regarding the exact identity and mechanism of the environmental insults that trigger the cascade of physical, mental, and emotional dysfunctions which result in the starvation of a child’s brain… there is strong evidence incriminating not one, but several toxins and mechanisms of entry as primary villains behind the damage suffered by many of our children.”

What is Omega 3 Magic?

I connected with Auum Director Cheryl Millett on Linked In as if by accident. Yet I do not believe there are any accidents. Nevertheless, I had no idea what our association would be. When we had a long telephone conversation and she introduced me to Auum and their mammalian source I was intrigued. When I went to an Auum Conference a couple of weeks later, I was captivated. The presentations were excellent.

Most of us health food enthusiasts recognize the importance of healthy oils in our diets. However this was the first time I had heard about a source of oil, with the clinical research to back it, that has a chemical structure most similar to the human body, and that can be assimilated almost immediately, particularly in a sublingual form. Omega 3’s are absorbed sublingually into the bloodstream quickly and it is not at all uncommon to see positive results within days or even, as in my case, hours.

I was surprised to learn that Omega 3, which the body cannot produce, is necessary for both replenishing the cells with nutrients and also for the crucial job, all the more necessary in a toxic environment where our foods are becoming increasingly contaminated, of helping the cells remove toxins. A lack of Omega 3 reduces the ability of the cells to efficiently perform their function, leading to nutrient starvation and chronic illness.

Omega 3 is important for the regulation of inflammation, pain, swelling, blood pressure, heart function, gastrointestinal function and secretion, kidney function and fluid balance, blood clotting and platelet aggregation, allergic response, nerve transmission, steroid production and hormone synthesis. A deficiency of Omega 3 will lead to dysfunction of these vital bodily activities.

Most health practitioners I know of recommend fish oil as a source of both Omega 3 and Omega 6. I was surprised to learn that the Omega 6 in fish oils is far greater than the Omega 3 and that this can be detrimental if one is not getting enough Omega 3 because it creates an even greater imbalance.

Then there is the other nutrient that there has been so much hype about recently: Vitamin D. I also found out that the vitamin Ds, particularly mammalian sourced D3, is the most bioavailable form after direct exposure to sunlight, which the majority of us do not get enough of.

I started taking the oil the day after the conference. I had cleaned out a friend’s attic the week before and must have pulled a muscle because I had a lot of achy pain on my right leg travelling from my knee to my hip – and it was not getting any better. I was thinking that something must be out of place and was considering going to a chiropractor. The first dose of the oil alleviated the pain considerably, much to my relief. I took the 3 recommended doses that day. By the next day the pain was gone – and by a couple of days later, the pain seemed like a distant memory!

My guess is that the pain was due to inflammation and that the oil helped my body clear out the toxins causing it – almost right away. I consider this to be one of nature’s amazing acts of magic!

Does Omega 3 Magic Help Children?

To summarize, Omega 3 is a necessary building block that helps children grow up with optimal health. I have heard and read many stories of miraculous improvements in adults with chronic illnesses or small and pains like my own, in children with ASDs and other autoimmune diseases, and also in pets.

I was honoured to meet the owner, director and associates of Auum. They are people who are committed to making a difference and helping others, particularly children. I am excited to work alongside them.

Would you not help a child if you were in a position to? Please help us spread the word.

THE BIRTH OF A MISSION – Helping Children Everywhere Reach their Potential

By Lillie Hughes, Director, The Balanced Heart Mission

Suffice to say, as an infant, I was damaged by pharmaceutical drugs. As a result, I started early in life to search for natural whole food alternatives for health not only for myself but also for friends, my family and pets.

Starting in the early 1980’s, when searching for solutions for my dog’s health, I came across PUFAs and shortly afterwards the term surfaced in connection with ADD/ADHD. However, search as I may I did not find the kind of omegas that really worked. I used fish liver oil supplements for my children and grandchildren from birth, until in 2006, I was introduced to mammalian sourced omegas and immediately understood that the bioavailability would make the critical difference. Upon using it for my dog and also my four grandchildren on a daily basis, I noticed huge health improvements on many different issues. I gave to it a child that had major emotional meltdowns and behavioural issues and was excited to see that the turnaround time could be reduced from up to an hour, to just 1-2 minutes. Her attitude would turn from anger to a positive and loving one and immediate compliance.

The problem … her mom simply could not afford the oil for her daughter, although she acknowledged the huge benefits.

The solution … I gave her the oil for her daughter from my own stock.

Seeing children happy is a wonderful thing! I soon realized that watching children struggle with behavioural problems, attention deficits and learning disabilities was not something we have to accept. We can help these children and families have a better quality of life and to reach their personal potentials… Happy functioning families!

In conversation with Rj, the president and founder of Auum, the Balanced Heart Mission was born. He became the benefactor to these children.

The BHM started providing product to parents who couldn’t afford it for their children, just so that they could have a little peace in their lives, but … their children became happy and were able to attend school drug free and enjoy learning.

I was contacted by a mom with an autistic child who spends much time doing research and helping to support her Somali community who have an exceptionally high incidence of autism everywhere they emigrate. I had provided her with Auum oil many months previously. She had decided that the Auum omegas were the best omegas providing what these kids with autism required.

The Balanced Heart Mission stepped up to provide Auum oil to these kids.

The most significant results of the intervention were sleeping through the night without meds in a matter of days, calmed hyperactive behaviour, improved socialization to the point of calming another autistic child who was frustrated, anger changed into happiness, stubborn moods turned into cooperation with immediate compliance, reduced stimming, singing and smiling, and then … SPONTANEOUS SPEECH! Single words first, became phrases, single sentences and then multiple sentences.

Some of them are writing their names for the first time at age 11. Many kids 9-15 years of age attained first time achievements. Their parents were delighted to get a hug when they pick their child up from school, to see their child hug their sister or brother or call their name or grab their hand and pull them to play, when they’ve always played alone. Children were able to slow down, smile, concentrate and focus with a view to actually learn at school. Each child’s progress is unique, but each child DID progress.

The Balanced Heart Mission is will continue to change the lives of children in a positive way and by extension the lives of their families and others around them. With the continued cooperation of Auum for which the BHM is ever so grateful, and the belief and determination of the moms, we will continue “help children everywhere reach their potential”. Supporting the BHM means the end of a struggle and a new beginning for children everywhere.
